Bangkok Bank recognizes the role and the importance of the art of painting
and our intention is to support such fine art as well as support Thai artists
by providing the opportunities for them to develop works of value and further
develop their skills, thereby preserving the heritage of the Thai culture.
In 1974, the Bualuang Painting Contest was organized for the first time through
the initiative of Khun Boonchu Rojanastien, a former Deputy Prime Minister and
at the time a Senior Executive Vice President of Bangkok Bank. The Bank’s
symbol “Bualuang”(the Royal Lotus) was chosen as the name of the
contest. It was also the first tine that a private financial institution organized
an art contest in Thailand. The Bank later assigned this project to the Bangkok
Bank Foundation which was established with the objective of practicing the virtue
of public services including bolstering the Thai culture and art.
The Bangkok Bank Foundation regularly organizes the Bualuang Painting Contest
and has received good cooperation from the Committee and advisors who are highly
qualified professors of Art from various Universities. It has put the prize
winning works on show at the Music and Art Center (Soon Sankeet Silp), Bangkok
Bank, Saphan Phan Fah Branch. In 2003 this became Queen’s Gallery. The
25th Bualuang Painting Exhibition was held for the first time at the Queen’s
Gallery.
It was with much royal grace that HRH Queen Sirikit came to open the Queen’s
Gallery on 9th August 2003 and visited the Bualuang Painting Exhibition.
